When a prospective customer calls and...

Just had one today. Guy calls and tells me he's been using chainsaws all his life and has a Stihl and Husky. He just has five trees he wants down at a reasonable price and he will do the cleanup. So then he starts spouting off numbers for me to tell him what the average cost to take a tree down is for a medium sized tree. And I'm like, I don't give prices over the phone it's impossible to tell what something would cost without seeing the tree and the surrounding areas.

"shaking my head"

We get those calls frequently as well, every once in a while we get someone who refuses to let us visit their property, and won’t even tell us the address. They simply have to have a quote over the phone instantly. I tell people that the removal of a single tree can cost anywhere between $200 and $10,000. We have quoted projects everywhere between those numbers, and that is the closest ballpark we will give anybody over the phone.

Same.

My favorite is when you’re pruning and EVERY limb your on as you get about half way out to the tips the homeowner starts yelling “that’s good just cut it right there! thats good ,what are you doing, you don’t have to go any farther just cut it right there!”

Thats a lot better than bluff view pruning... Double and triple check that there is no more, rap out, and pull the line. Ascend back up the bluff, "oh could you just get that one more?" It's often met with a very flat "NO!"
