What's your idea of the best chainsaw pant and chainsaw chap?

Durability!!
Personally, I would rather be hot than walk around with all kinds of patches and stitch jobs in my pants.

The average worker in the field does not have 5 pair of saw pants, and most only have one pair for the week.

Saw pants need to be able to withstand the insanely abrasive nature of our work sites obviously, but, more importantly, we need single pairs of pants that can do that 5 days in a row.

I also like the membrane around the protective inlay Pfanner has- extra piece of mind when I screw up the oil cap and get all deepwater horizon with it.

Waterproof, zipper pockets just above the knee I can get into easily with my saddle on are awesome.

No more back flaps, and slim fit always.

I’d echo the durability factor. I am a one man show most days so climbing, dragging brush, and chipping are all part of my day. I think the gen 2 Zeros I have are perfect. I’ve got holes and rips in them from sharp pine branches but they hold amazingly well to abrasive bark and conditions.

I think the durability issue for me is more my only having one pair for all year use and not the fact that the pants are not durable enough. In a perfect world I’d have two pairs of Zeros and 2 pairs of Ascends that way I could spread the use out over the week and year and maybe get 2 years out of them. My wife and I have talked and are working numbers to afford that clothing plan. They are expensive but if I work an average of 250 days a year and the pants cost 315.00 then it’s like 1.26/day so I could put back 6 bucks a week for a year to get a new pair. So maybe buy less beer each month to get a new pair of pants. I think that math works. Looking at it that way the pants are a pretty good deal.

The Zeros I have are the only pair of chainsaw trousers I’ve ever worn. I love them. They fit well even on my skinny frame. The fact I could get them custom made for only a small surcharge more is icing on the cake. I’ve also met some of the guys at Clogger and all my interactions with them have been outstanding and amazingly friendly. I’ll continue buying from them based partly on their attitude and customer service and partly on the excellent quality of their garment. They are humble, friendly guys and took the time to talk to me and answer all my questions at the last Expo.

As far as features go the pants are perfect for my climate, trees, and type of work I do. The fit is slim which I like and the pants are a good value. The anti-pick fabric on the right calf is a great addition.

The durability is not an issue for me since I have to wash my sweaty pants after most days of use. Since they are only rated for a few dozen wash cycles, I max out the wash cycles before they disintegrate.

Washing them shouldn't be an issue unless they have Kevlar for the chainsaw protection (not that common these days for various technical reasons) or if you are washing them in a hot wash (should never be done!) If there are manufacturers out there that are saying their pants/chaps are only rated for x number of wash cycles in this day and age I would like to know their reasoning behind it...

My favorite is the gladiator vents. But they are too heavy and hot in the summer.

Second up are cloggers, but the lack of ass pocket, less durable, and the funny fit are drawbacks. Perhaps it’s my build, but the waist sits way low on me and when wearing a belt, the vertical ass seem rides up my crack
The sizing is a pretty common comment. I will be the first to admit the Zeros are a pretty radical design and are not to everyone's liking. That being said though, I have a hunch part of the reason some people find them very tight is as as follows:

Most trousers brands are manufactured with the actual physical waist dimensions being quite different to the sizing on the label. Actual sizing is larger sometimes by as much 1 or 2 sizes. Why this is I don't know, but it is a fact!
Clogger sizing is done using actual, exact measurements and if you don't get a chance to try before you buy you, should definitely double check your actual measurements with a tape against our sizing chart before you order.

Also if lack of back pockets and the low cut are issues check out the Ascend, colossal back pocket, harder wearing, waterproof to the knee and have more a Euro style high backed fit to them, while not being much heavier than the Zeros!
Once again, always check the sizing before ordering! Thanks for the feedback by the way, always appreciated.

Cheers

Are the ascend pants vented and as cool in temp as the zeros?
It’s pretty much just the low cut of a waste line that bugs me about the zeros. I put them on, and if I bend over my crack falls out. If I pull them up the back seam rides into my crack.

I own two sizes. They both ride my crack a bit, makes my day a little exciting, but literally looks like a male version of a camel toe

They are not AS cool, they have a slightly thicker fabric, zipped vents and a high back on them, which kind of eliminates the butt crack problem;). That being said, they are still cool to wear and the waterproofing on them is amazing in winter as well. @Mark Chisholm I am not selling, just clearing up misconceptions about the brand:p I found your original email by the way, if the rates are still the same will hopefully have something back to you by the end of the week, sorry about the very long delay!

Not bullying here and am glad to foster great discussions. This is just may way of a gentle reminder that I see you as a fit here

Durability, breathability, and slimmer fit are ideal. I have tried one of SIP's pants and got 6 months before falling apart. Then on to gladiators which were super durable and I got about two years out of them. Pretty hot and very baggy but overall pretty decent. Next were the first gen. zeros which I liked a lot. Downfall was that they tend to pick pretty easily, however were pretty resistant to tearing. Now on the the 2nd gen. zeros which I find pretty close to perfect. Slightly baggy but overall an awesome trouser. I recently ordered a pair of the Clogger Ascend pants because Wesspur has a safety month sale and I figure that would be my best chance to grab a pair. They feel very durable but the fit is very weird on my. Sizing runs way smaller than the zeros, the raised back makes them feel like they are halfway up your stomach and wedgyville all day in them. Also quite hot. I think they will be a winter pant that only get worn on 100% ground days.
