Whats the strangest thing you have found in a tree

Re: Whats the strangest thing you have found in a

A corrugated tin roof halfway through the diameter of a white oak (beside a playground, and they still won't take it down):

A rusty old saw chain. Someone must of got their chainsaw pinched and had to leave the chain. It was in a Manitoba Maple on an old farm......things farmers do.

8 or 10 years ago I took on a very large silver maple removal that was probabally out of my league at the time. In it I found 2 metal fence posts, 3 strands of barb wire, a can of car wax and a bb gun. The fence posts and wire didnt surprise me but the wax and the gun must have been set in the first crotch about 6 feet off of the ground and forgotten. The tree grew right around them. I found them when the trunk was dropped and the codominant stem split. Took me almost a whole day to drop the stub. Alot of sharpening!

My Dad tells about finding a parking meter grown into a street tree. (There was no money in it... I already asked.)

One time we were doing line clearance on transmission lines way out in a swamp and I climbed a tree next to some sort of heavyduty remote controlled airplane with a camera inside a bubble on the underside. I wonder who lost it?

This is an odd one for sure. A few of us were present when it was discovered sitting in the crotch of the tree twenty-five feet from the ground. Had to play back the video just to figure out where it went. Disappeared up the line and deposited itself in the tree crotch.

Re: Whats the strangest thing you have found in a

A hollow oak had to come down. The center lead had blown out years ago so the trunk was a tube. Chunked the top out and then made my top face cut. The chain went dull all of a sudden so I pulled out the saw. Sand came pouring out of the cut. After trashing a couple more chains to open up a hole we emptied about a yard of sand from the trunk to clear it out for felling.

A maple had a few low limbs that needed to be removed. When we started chipping the larger one which was about six inches in diameter the chipper started clanging like mad! Jumped on the throttle and kicked out the clutch then dove for cover. When the disc stopped we opened up the infeed and found the head of a carpenter's hammer. It took a bit of head scratching to figure out where it came from. We did find a piece of the limb with the imprint of the hammer head where the tree had grown around the hammer years before. The limb was about 20' off the ground so we figured someone must have lobbed it up there and abandoned it to the Hammer Eating Treelimb until the Hammer Eating Chipper showed up to eat the Hammer Eating Treelimb and gagged.

Best way to remove TP from a tree???

Not by climbing at all...get a high pressure hose and soak the TP until it dissolves.

I almost found my chipper in a spruce tree one time... We had a rope brake mounted on top of a smaller morbark chipper. After returning from dumping a load of chips we seem to have forgotten to hook the chipper to the truck. I took out the fairly large top and all of the sudden the chipper comes steaming toward the tree. Luckily the jack got stuck in a hole that was in the yard and stopped the chipper. Would have had a tough time explaining that one for sure!

Found a bag of drugs in a hollow tree in an alley while doing line clearance in the inner city. Packed everything up, moved to the next block. When we came back a couple of hours later, it was gone.

There is an old bike in a tree here on a local road that is a very popular road of bicyclists. it is a memorial to a rider that was lost on that road. They painted it white.

Also found in tree are metal roofs that are about 40 foot up in a sycamore, remainds of a tornado that passed a few years back.

Best is when you see a car frame that a tree has grown about. that happens a lot here - Hungry trees

While removing an old silver maple years ago, we found the carcass of a dog in a branch union cavity. The branch union was about 10-12 feet up and the hollow about 3-4 feet deep. The dog was either an Irish setter or long haired yellow lab. So, we figured the dog was chasing a squirrel or racoon and fell into the hollow at the union. It was about a 56" DBH tree.
