What is wrong with people?

I also have had those same problems with adults who should know better than to walk through a coned and signed area right into the work zone. When my guys tell them they need to get out of the area they get an attitude with them.

About three weeks ago we were in a quiet little neighborhood, cones/signs all over and some kids road their bike into our work area and I had to yell from inside a tree for them to not cut through the area. The kids came back and we all kept our eyes on them and watched as one kid while sticking his tongue out road his bike right into one of our trucks. Sad and kinda funny.

We do quite a bit of work for schools in L.A. County. Same thing - students, teachers, admin folks all can't understand why they have to be inconvienienced by taking 2 minutes to walk around. We usually catch them and stop the trimming, but once in a while one gets through and has such a suprised look on their face when some trimmings come down near them.

"That's what the yellow tape and cones are for. You do see that we're all wearing hard hats? You understand now why we do?" Or, the always popular, "Glad you didn't suddenly have a bad hair day."

I also don't appreciate it when clients or the public talk to my guys like they're just the help. A couple of times a year I have to tell them that only I can talk to them like that, and even I don't talk to them like that. If they have a problem they have my cell # and can call.

Anyone who crosses into a work zone...or stops at the edge and cops an attitude about having to go around becomes a Cone Head.

This morning I had to block off an area on campus to elevate some low branches...the rain had them weighed down to chest height... The area is right at the door to the campus police station. As I was putting up the last bit of yellow tape a student walks up, in a rush, and asks if they can go through. I said, 'No. This is a work zone." The student hmppphed and walked around. Good for them! I've been told that our students are a cut above :)

The cops chuckled and said. "They're not used to hearing that!"

A while ago someone analyzed this phenomenon. The commet was that we see caution tape, cones, danger signs and the rest. People see this but rarely see any work actually being done. After a while the cones have no meaning.

Adding brush to the inside of the cone/tape line is the best was to keep Cone Heads from entering.
