What is this tree? Is it dead?

Just moved to a new home and I'm tying to identify some trees around the property. Came across this...ideas?

Maybe a Prunus maackii, but could be another prunus sp. Look alive to me. Buds will proberbly soon break so wait for that

Never heard of that birch, but your right it looks like one after googling it. Now I want to see one

It's a Yellow Birch, Betula alleghaniensis

To confirm yellow birch break a small twig and smell it. You should have a wintergreen smell. Black or cherry birch has this same characteristic but it's bark is dark and smooth.
Yellow birch is my vote.
