What do we think about diapers?

Can diapers help a plant grow?

I saw this the other day and was wondering what others thought? I think it's a cool idea, but isn't the idea to make the water available to the roots? I am very familiar with baby diapers...they hold liquid. I haven't tried experimenting with the mush inside a diaper...that's not what I meant. I haven't tried this experiment, but would the water really be available to the roots? Obviously, understanding the balance of macropores and micropores and available water leads to the question...would it be held too tightly for the roots to absorb? And further more, what is this really doing to the soil?

I saw somewheres they were using oyster mushrooms to consume huge amounts of shitty diapers in Mexico I think it was. Then they were eating the mushrooms!? Don't qoute me on this shit , but I swear I saw this somewheres.

I lived in Tucson for a few years. Down there to help establish plants they used some type of gel. It is close if not the same absorbent stuff in diapers. They would use a paper milk jug with the bottom cut out buried a few inches..

I've wondered about this too, and I may try some herb gardening to test it out. It seems pretty similar in principle to hugelkultur, which I have played with, and which is very effective. I don't think it matters whether the water is available while it's in the diaper polymers or the wood, because it will wick back into the soil as the soil dries, like a water battery.

It just makes it so you have to water less cause the gel in it absorbs and hold water my buddy is a care giver and puts a chopped up diaper in each pot of dirt

Honestly I have no idea never gave it a thought really I just know diapers work for retaining water for the roots if your going to be gone a few days
