What are the best Scissors ?

I have spent a bunch of money buying really nice sewing scissors only to have our fancy ropes ruin them. Are there scissors on the market made specifically for our very abrasive type ropes? I am tired of buying expensive scissors only to have them last a month.

What I found the best thing to do is this, Get an old pair and sharpen them with your saw's round file, they dont need to be perfect, and rough serrations work well.

I use a stanley knife to cut most thicker pieces.

You should be looking for KAI Scissors.

These were recommended by John Harrtenburg at the 2009 Splicing Seminar.

I second the carpenters knife with exchangeable blades.
There are super (-expensive) scissors for that, but they get dull with time (quite fast actually) as well and sharpening them is not easy.

For utility knives w/ replaceable blades, I would recommend using a DMT Sharpening Tool.
These are diamond impregnated sharpening tools.

I have a small utility knife that I carry every day, & have not changed the blade in 6 – 8 years !
I do not cut arimide with it.

Coarse (325 grit) or Extra-Coarse (220 grit) will “sharpen” & provide very small “teeth” to easily cut thru most items.

I have many items in the DNT line.

I have a pair of tailors scissors that I use for most things but anything like Dynema or similar I use a ceramic knife. About £10 from Amazon

KAI scissors. I got some at TCIA. They are deadly sharp and stay that way. Worth every penny. I actually get giddy after I make a cut with them and think about how great that moment in my life was.

I disagree. Use the best scissors that CAN handle the job.

I've use my scissors to cuts through vectran, dyneema and technora thousands of times since I got them around 2009ish

Cool, how do sharpen them?
Are they "micro-toothed"?

I know Marine-Splicers who work work with high-end-scissors as well, but they send them to the manufacturer for sharpening. Quite expensive all together...

WOW, that sounds mighty impressive!
It could really be worth the price if it stays sharp cutting all the high-mod stuff!
I know of scissors more then double that price which do not...

I've just had a brainwave after looking at the price of Ars scissors, really like my ceramic knife and couldn't justify Hundreds of dollars on a pair of scissors so I googled Ceramic scissors. Found a pair for $40. I'll let you guys know if they turn out to be good!

I got a cheap pair and a slightly more expensive ($20 & $40). Planning on using whichever pair is best for splicing and the other will go back!
