Western MA

I am working in Amherst, MA for a couple of weeks, and I am looking for stuff to do on the weekends. I am out here by myself, so the weekends can get kinda boring.

Can anyone suggest any day hikes or good brewery tours?

I have never been up to Vermont, so I am planning on driving up there one day too. Any suggestions up that direction would be appreciated as well.

Mohawk Trails State Park. It has the tallest trees in New England.

Purgatory Chasm but it is in central MA near Worcester has some awesome hemlock trees and short trails.

As for Vermont you can catch the lower part of the long trail or if you want to take gorgeous drive route 100 goes up the spine of the state right through most of the mountains.

You also arent' too far from the Catskills in NY, or the Taconics.

If you are into fly fishing the world famous Battenkill is in Southern Vermont.

Just remember though that southern vermont is more like "little Connecticut" than it is like "real" Vermont

Last Sunday I took a drive up route 100 to the Long Trail brewery. The weather wasnt too good, so it was a nice day for a scenic drive and some great beer.

This Sunday I am going to head out to Mohawk Trails State Park and check out the old growth trees.

I made it out to Mohawk Trails Park today. The park is very nice, and the old growth is pretty sweet too. I came across some Lady Slippers at the top of one of the mountain tops.

I also came across an old abandoned truck just off one of the trails.

There's also Wachusett Brewery in Westminster...

Old Sturbridge Village is always a fun day, too.
