We have a chipper down!

Here is my rant for the day. (Something that has been building up with me for a while now).

Okay Feb. 7th I was usning my new Model 90. I smelt a familiar odor, but it smelt out of place for my work place. I then looked toward the engine of the chipper and noticed red fluid spraying out of the engine compartment. I shut the chipper down quickly and thought "a hydraulic hose" had blown (because of the red color liquid). Then I touched it and smelt it. "Radiator fluid! Ahh Crap!" I said to myself. I sat there with my Carharrt longsleeve shirt wiping the thing down so that I could locate the leak on the engine. I wiped down the hoses. I squeezed the hoses. I looked this way, that way... After about 20 minutes of trying to find the leak I noticed,at the lower right corner, there was a leak. 7.4 hours on the new chipper and the radiator busted!

So, I have been waiting all this time hauling brush to a place where they have a tub grinder. I am working longer on jobs (which means my dollar$ per hour go down), I have to pay a dump fee, and DANG IT! That is a new chipper!

I may get the chipper next week.

Don't let it get you down. I had issues at the start with mine, it all worked out. Bandit is good about warranty, usually loaner too. I had a railroad spike go through mine once, NOW THAT WAS BAD! Put a "all risk" rider on your insurance to cover those hidden dangers, lesson learned. Dont forget to check bolts and belts after the first few hours.

I agree Bandit will work with you, they have always been good to me.

Think thats bad, I've had a Morbark Hurricane 2400 for less than two years and had 5 hydraulic pumps, two axles, two feed wheel motors, frame broke three times, and lost the key way for the chain drive one the feed wheels countless times, and most recently the tach.won't work which disables the autofeed. So now they have it back again and and are fixing the autofeed and key way issue. But through it all they still give me a loaner in my down time to get me by. New equipment shouln't break like these do!

I guess that wasn't that bad of an experience after all!

Bandit did work with me very well. However the Caterpillar guys were a different story. They were the guys who had to replace the radiator.

Since then I had a hydraulic control go out too. Bandit sent me the part fast and I didn't have any problems fixing it myself.

There is not a dealer in Colorado at the moment.

Any one else have any trouble with a Vermeer BC1000XL?
ours is less than a year old less than 65hrs and its been constant trouble with the electronics with the help of our local vermeer service tech we have found a faulty silonoid, but it is at the end of a long list of faulty electronic parts.

The BC1000XLs were full of bugs for the first two years. We had one of the first 1000s, not an XL. It was always having issues.

I recommend an 1800XL instead.
