Video: What do you think?

Looks good to me. Nice work dropping off the top. I would have worn a helmet, but hey, each to their own. Was that a silky oak? I wouldent want to drop those chunks into the back of my truck.

That doesn't look good to me. Not professional at all. I do like the dropping of the top. Very educated move, but the lack of gear, the one-handed MS 460 and then smashing the truck- well that truck thing is something that I've made fun of. Sorry to insult anyone, but there are better ways than that!

I agree.

I worked 3 days with this crew last week, was hard to get vid as it wasn't my show and I had to try to make sure not to get names or rego's etc.

This vid too, http://www.treebuzz.com/forum/showflat.p...=true#Post48657 same crew.

Atleast on the third day the climber wore his helmet, but the other guys, hopeless. The bloke feeding the chipper, no glasses!

They dont wear helmets, glasses etc ... I really hate it. And yes, the guy feeding the chipper copped one in the left eye and luckily was OK a few hours later ... but the next day no glasses.

This is the typical tree workes around here.

They argue that helmets are not essential PPE for working chippers anyway, you have guys on ropes under trees ... no helmets.

Frankly, you have no idea how "normal" this is.

Eric, you're the 'normal' one. looking after your health, wearing a minimum of PPE, looking after the old think box, protecting your sight and hearing etc is NORMAL.

Its those guys that are ABnormal. /forum/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

That one handed cutting technique might be lethal when the saw kicks back and gets him under the arm! I did'nt notice but was the climber using a rope? His lanyard looks like it has taken a bunch hits from the saw. Deaf, dumb and blind. Runaway Ekka!

i think that was a great video. a majority of the videos we see are of the proper way to do things. and usually when we see the improper way of tree work we see property damage,or personal injury. this vid gives a look at what a majority of "tree guys" consider that being a good climber w a smart, hard crew. here at treebuzz we are arborists and climbing technicians and see the faults in that work vid. the sad part is that every town has a dozen or more companies that would have that exact work scene, but only 3 maybe 4 companies that never allow such a thing. it good to see what we are up against...

That guy is going to cut himself some day. If he used snap cuts he would then be able to let the RPM's come down on the chain, hit the brake and then place the saw in a safe place before throwing the log. All it takes for that guy is a simple mistake to goose the throttle and accidently cut himself or his gear.--It bothers me when people try to take short cuts.

I've got to agree. I was cringing watching that video. No PPE, the guys on the ground wearing no helmets, no chaps etc... This is a reckless crew and the climber doesn't even stop the saw to pull it out of the cut!! I strongly agree with Treebeard, it's good we get to see what's right AND what's wrong.

Frankly, Mark maybe those guys should be insulted because they could get somebody else hurt who might think that this is the safe or correct way to undertake tree operations.

Thanks Ekka!

I agree with the complaints about the lack of PPE, but we knock wood into trucks all the time, our trucks have 3/8 thick floors and crossmembers 8" on center (we build the bodies for the abuse) if the climber would use a notch, he could get the pieces to land flat, alot less brutal on truck, also back the truck the other way into tree making for a bigger target.

We easily knock wood into trucks from 60', I always say if the wood touches the ground, you are losing money.

From that hieght, that butt could have easily been in truck with 3 cuts.
