Video: posse ... just another day on the road

And in the tradition of "bid gone bad" you wouldn't believe my luck ... it happened again. In fact it happens all the time, why? Coz it's cowboy county. Finding companies doing the right thing is rare ... finding customers supporting the cowboys is common.

In this video you'll see that the customer is actually a BCC employee ... which raises some questions. What is the association if any and is this a mates job or council job etc ... I always am curious to know the guff ... is there a rat or not?

It's a massive 8.40mins and 44MB in streaming wmv format.

Now, I dont want to spoil it for you all but there was a bit of a plot here, all too coincidental with a few people in the street involved ... hmmmm

Great video.

Bust up those cowboys!

We could use you around here.

What ever happened over at the TreeHouse with the trees that young man was going to top and then fertilize? Never did see the pics. I hope he changed his mind.

Hey Ekka, great to show these things. But i think it'd be better if when asked what you are doing; that you just reply that you have a-Maas-ed this huge collection of free arborist videos for the world; and are just adding to it. Then give them a biz card with internet address to share it with them too. Same job done, less confrontational; and maybe they'd be more likely to look after themselves and their folks.

Perhaps especially when you just got a call, and they are already on edge, knowing they swooped a job from someone, then a tree truck pulls up. They probably expect no good intentions; then see camera. Personally i think with 3 less vehichles and 2-3 less men; they'd make more and be able to afford PPE; perhaps even be able to afford long pants!

i werk for several small outfits; usually am only one with any PPE. Actually the city and perhaps 2 local companies are about all i see wearing any 'religiously' around these parts. i see more lawn guys with ear and eye protection than tree guys!! Most shops don't carry hard hats, or ear protection, and if they do, they seem never to be bought. Some eye protection/ safety sun glasses seem to crawl slowly out the door. i've tried to talk to the shops about carrying the stuff, if only to cover their butt, and say they offered it, in case any injuries happen to customers buying chainsaws etc. Hard sell, even for cheapo ear plugs; one guy told me they are at Walmart, drug stores etc. if guys want them, so he didn't need to carry them.

Hope ya don't feel short changed by my adding my 2 cents!

Good video mate, but believe me it's no different over here.I used to get equally pi$$ed off,but all you end up doing is driving yourself crazy, you'll never stop the hacks ever..

I'm not telling you what to do but sooner or later your going to meet a bunch who hit first and ask questions later.

Two Saturdays ago I went out to price a job,at the time the client wanted, humm turned up to find a freshly cut stump, and a coward who wouldn't answer the door and hid behind his net curtains..

A month ago I went out to price a job 50 miles from home fortunatly the customer gave me the job,2 weeks later I turn up with kit and staff only to find the trees gone and the bloody stumps ground out....

You seem a decent guy Ekka, why not do what I do and try and concentrate on commercial work, local councils and appreciative domestic clients, easier said than done I know but well worth the extra effert

I've emailed workcover here and asked if they're interested in vids of offenders.

Yeah, I'm sticking my neck out, but at this stage I can handle it, difficult to go covert with a spycam and get decent footage.

There's a few tree companies that ring me when there's some "action" on the road ... if I have time I fly down there to see what's going on.

I think your idea Spydie is spot on, wont hurt to give it a go, this mob was a notorious underbidder.

I find as long as you keep the camera running they're not going to try anything stupid and there's always witnesses around.

And Rolla I know exactly how you feel when you take your crew to a job and it's already done ... now that's just BS.
When you are bidding you simply dont really know yet if they're a good customer or bad ... you just drive and stuff happens.

What amazed me with this mob was amongst 4 vehicles they didn't have 1 hardhat!

Anyway, these are the things that have been going on all the time behind the scenes, you are just seeing them, and perhaps for the staff and newcomers they can be prepared for the let downs, the underbidding competitors and the customers who couldn't give a stuff. My staff cant believe these vids, they have no idea what goes on, they just come to work and all is organised.

I suppose my steadfast confrontational stance is brought from 7 years of debt collecting. I was one of the best collectors and never once was I hit. I've hardened and cant stand being ordered around by people with no authority ... they need to be brought down a peg or two as well ... and amazingly in the two instances shown the customers werent nice guys ...
... because nice people do the right thing in most cases and care about stuffing you around.

Anyway, 2 big jobs today so probably back to tree work today.

I have videod a shady (as in bad) tree service in my area once. I got the same as you. I got them wearing no PPE AND topping a tree. I then followed them and caught them dumping in the city's tree limb diversion (not open to contractors). They, however, did not know of my where-a-bouts! I know the owner and his sons are violent men and I suspect they would react in a uncivilized manner if they knew they were being recorded. I think if I were to get them again, I'd like to have two cameras on them. That way I can get them beating the crap out of me and charge them to the fullest degree of the law. I'd take it for the team to get them in jail. From a reliable source, these guys are felons. They basically are in the tree business because they cannot work anywhere else.

That's pretty much the way it is down here, too.

Sometimes people just don't think...

Yeah well, you do have to be carefull if you have rough nuts like that around. But you could send the anonymous footage to the authorities and have the idiots dealt with.

So like, there's all "questionables" working in the industry hey, crims! Ha, I'd put on my advertising ...

Trust us, we dont have criminal record like some of the others you may meet ... or, it's a risky business picking a tree company but with us you'll be as safe as ever ... with a picute of some ferral tree guy trying to break in or case the house out.

... today on our job, all went smooth, no stupidity going on, everyone knows their job, has their PPE ... what's so hard about being decent?

people just see that type of advertizing as childish underhand slagging off IMO. best to sell yourself based on your merits, not on other peoples downfalls....that just displays a weak mind

im also wondering if perhaps somewhere theres a "good driving forum" with some busybody going round videoing other peoples bad driving.......a shot of you driving along like an idiot and shooting a video at the same time must be breaching a few rules wouldnt ya think? just some food for thought!

Hey Steve did Ekka catch you in a video? Ekka doesn't act like and idiot but I do know what you mean with his driving on the wrong side of the road and all.

oh so you dont class driving along and shooting a video as gross negligence? what if a kid ran out in front of him....you're saying he has full concentration on the road ahead? wake up sonny

Do you realize that Ekka's driving is not the subject of this thread? In your last couple of post you have called him "an idiot", "a busybody", "childish", and "displays a weak mind".

What is your real beef? Spit it out, Punk.

I think his point is simple. Look at your own behavior before you judge others. The first rule in rescue is don't become a second victem. By ekka's effort to report others wrecklous behavior, he is forgetting about how wrecklous his own behavior is.

Ha. well if some-one did run out or I had a prang at least I would have video evidence ....

Also, I'm unaware of any law that prohibits "one handing a steering wheel" especially if the car is a manual!

There is specific road law to the use of mobile phones as studies showed the conversation of the phone call is what distracts you ... I haven't seen one for video cameras yet.

I am wide awake, would you like me to get a copy of my driving accidents and offenses record to satisfy your insatiable desire to make mountains out of molehills.

Lets see, average Km's travelled PA usually with load/trailer is 80,000 and have been driving unrestricted licence since 16 ... so that's 27 years of driving.

In that period of time 1 accident claim involving another car where I ran up the back end of them as they stopped dead still for no reason whilst I was fully loaded. The driver was on a mobile phone call and decided to stop without pulling over! Result was $800 damage to my car and $6K to their bubble car but my fault as I hit them in rear.

2 other small claims due to me hitting a post in a carpark and a guard rail on a country trip when I slipped off the bitumin onto the gravel and slid into the guard rail ... total damage for these two accidents $2000 ... I have lifetime full NCB guarantee and 3 vehicles registered and insured in my name.

Some of us are born with a few surplus brain cells providing us the ability to do more at the same time than the average idiot out there. But as I think Spacemule pointed out once ... regression to the mean ... which means pull people down to the lowest common denominator.

Now, traffic offences, a few speeding tickets, no loss of licence for that, I think about 6 for the entire time I have been driving, but on the average day I will go thru around 3 speed camera traps ... it's crazy here with cameras.

In 1990, I got busted DUI and lost my licence for 9 months, that's it. The insurance companies think it's pretty good.

So fortunately what some perceive as a high risk is usually only relevant to their own intellect and skills, the lower it is the less they expect from others.

My advertising here has taken on the cowboys 100%, and it's working, people are seeing the difference, I dont arrive to bid with a T-shirt on with HASH across the back of it with a cowboy hat on, and like I've seen some do with thongs or flipflops on etc ... some customers dont mind that ... but they're not the type I'm that interested in getting for long term loyalty.

I hope this has answered some of your rantings.
