video of topped trees in my area

Wow that is crazy. Do you guys have any kind of state licensing for arborist or local arborist association? It would be cool if they could put out some kind of news letter out to the community to inform them on proper pruning and how damaging it is to top trees.
Thanks for sharing

That's exactly it, educating the public. The public doesn't know any better. They don't know the potential damage topping can do. They're doing what they think is normal.
Educate the public through seminars. Get together with local landscapers to educate them.
Put on demonstrations to show the public what a real arborist does.

Macrocarpa try to contact your local newspapers and see if they will run a article on the topic it might also get you some business if they interview you. You could talk about the proper way to prune and the consequence if itis done wrong. I would also see if your local television net work could run your video clip
Hope this helps

I agree Norm.

When I’m out on estimates I do the best I can to educate the customers so they know what they are buying. I think over time with public awareness people will start to understand the importance of hiring a licensed arborist if they want to protect their investments.

Was finally able to watch the whole video. Makes me really sad, and makes me feel fortunate to get the quality of trees I do to work on around here.

Good luck to anyone fighting that fight. :-(

Thought I should add, Covering the destruction of topping: I have had numerous letters in the newspapers, been on the local news with the city forester, city put up "no topping zone" signs, and there is a city ordinance againist topping on commercial and city property. However or efforts would appear futile and trees are regularly topped on commercial property and fewer on city property. But...there is NO enforcement at all. So why have it, right?

Whow....that is really a sad view.
There are some around here when greenkeepers try to prune trees but most off the trees are left alone exept for willows wich is typical dutch.

I wonder if the trees are topped because people are scared off trees and all the electrical wiring above the ground. Here in the netherlands all the electrics are in the ground.

Later in de vid I see a lot off trees topped where there's no cables around....maybe people really should be educated in proper maintainance off trees. Would be super cool if you could turn the public into nice un-topped trees ;-)

But if I had to drive every day to the job seeing this I would be a sad arborist knowing there are so many others topping the hell out off all the trees.

Keep up the good work and hope it will improve for the best off the trees and you.

Looks much like where I live and work. I have all but given up attempting to educate any one on proper tree maintenance. To most people living in the rural south this is how trees should look. If you tell them anything different you are asking for an argument. When you tell them why topping is bad for the tree, they take it as a personal insult.

I am ready to move also.

That's like the worst I've ever seen. It's like a trail of bread crumbs but it's not bread crumbs it's stupidity. I wood look for old hydro bucket and a guy with no teeth, wearing overalls.. Maybe!?

No offence to anyone out there with no teeth and wearing overalls.

Got alittle info on my website but... it's going to take more than that. I think it has to do with the age of the tree owners. Older folks are prone to this type of work.
