Verticillium wilt on Acer palmatum

We have a customer with verticillium wilt in a large 25' tall Acer palmatum. I went and removed all deadwood, even the smallest dead twigs from leaf stalks. We removed the 2 center leaders, roughy 8" diameter. We are trying our absolute hardest to save this specimen.

What are others doing about this problem, and having success with?

treat it like dutch elm and hook up the I.V.'s if you want to save it, slow steady ferting seems to work for some. Otherwise you can do the slow cancer deadwood trim out death year after year. If it as the fast acting vert just say good bye to it now.

Thanks Holl. How do you tell the difference in fast and slow? (didnt know there was a difference)

Anyone else using a different method than outlined above?

Only 2 ways I've noticed is the rate of die back from year to year, with some just out right kicking in just one season.
