vertical logging

It doesn't help the radius but helps the crane winch. Our crane winch has a capacity lift of ten thousand lbs. If you wanted to lift more than that you would want to two part the line, doubles your lifting capacity.

The block weighs 1200, so if you single line it, you lose a little capacitcy when you reach far away...I think. If they have to use counterweight, then they have to 4 part it. I don't think they even have a smaller block for that rig.

The weight of the block should aways be deducted from the capacity of the load chart of the area you are working in. They 4 part the line to place the counterweight just because of the amount of weight of the counterweight not to exceed the pull of the capacity of the winch.

I never did care for 2 parting the line. It takes double the time to hoist and lower material with pulling double the length of cable. Plus don't feel comfortable with picking over 10k with our 27.5 ton crane. It can handle it but at a close radius.

Adding parts to the line doesnt change the weight the crane itself can handle but what the winch will handle. The crane may handle 20k# but the winch might be 10k# single line.

Maybe you misunderstood me. I don't understand why you parted the line knowing you are picking at 110'? Yes your winch may be good for 10K, but at that radius I would be guessing the crane may only be good for approx. 5k and it looks like your picks where in the 2-3k range these are all just guesses. Please correct me if I'm way off. Maybe they had the line parted to set the counterwieghts and to save time left it parted to do the job, another guess. Last observation, I thought if they backed in they could have saved 10' of radius also increasing capacity. Anyone agree?
