Versatile or the Dragonfly saddle?

I am in the market for a saddle with a butt seat. I currently have the Glide II and love the bridge action but hate the leg and crotch riding. I am looking at the Versitile deluxe or the Dragonfly II. Any comparisons or preferences? Thanks,
-Greg

Greg,

I have the buck traverse. It's a pretty comfortable saddle, but would definitely recommend getting the upgrade to the deluxe, as the padding is pretty much nonexistent on the one I have. However, I am currently in the market as well to replace my saddle and am strongly considering the dragonfly. Just too nervous to switch to the leg type saddles, seems to constricting in the lower regions.

as a bonus with the drogon fly, if you decide you want to use the leg loops for some reason you can swap them out so instead of buying a whole new saddle you can just buy the leg loops. then you will have the Butterfly II saddle.

Buy a TreeMotion or Treeflex. So comfortable you'll think you're wearing sweatpants in your favorite recliner drinking cold beer and smoking a mild cigar while your beautiful, intelligent, caring wife wispers in your ear "we just won the lottery" while massaging your aching shoulders... oh yeah, and your favorite songs are on shuffle as you stare into a 3,000 gallon saltwater aquarium.

Jeez, I like my Treemotion pretty good, but it doesn't do all that. Maybe I need to send it back to the manufacturer for a repairs.

Back many, many, years ago (when TOM was still a Minnesotan)
I started out in a Versatile. They are much heavier and the bridge rides a lot higher. It's really hard to get used to.
But overall I'd rate it an 8. On the other hand I've sold Butterfly's that the back pad and the piping started ripping out after a couple of weeks. SPENDY

Hope this helps

What, Tom, you sitting? That'll be when BOTH of our heads are as smooth as our helmets.

I've only worn a bosun's seat once, and from the get-go it always reminded me I was sitting on a 2x4. Maybe its just my physique (hard butt?).

On the other hand, I did have a few climbs in a TreeFlex where the harness became transparent, as if the ropes terminated right into my body some where. Similarly, after the 3rd time the TreeMotion was tuned to me by Chris Cowell.

There is something to be said about this sort of innovation. I can be safer if I don't have to pay attention to comfort. Pay for it now, or pay for it later.

YMMV

i use the versatile deluxe with the bosun seat - had the un-deluxe one for 3 years then upgraded - it is definitely worth the extra bucks :) it may be a bit heavier than some of the newer types out there - but buckingham makes a harness that lasts

peace,

Wow, that's impressive. Not only comfort but all that, too?
Does the Treemotion have a seat or leg straps? The main complaint that I have with my Glide is not only the crotch riding but also when I'm dragging around my saw (200T) it feels like it is going to rip my harness off sometimes even with suspenders on. I don't know much about the Treemotion other than the picture in the Sherrill catalog and that it cost a lot more than any other saddle. I know that you get what you pay for but for almost $500 it should come with an ipod.
The Versatile seems a little more durable and might last a little longer but overall comfort and safety are my main interest since I spend most of my working days in a saddle.
Any other Treemotion owners raving? Any compaints about the Versatile Deluxe or Dragonfly II?
Thanks everyone

I switched from a versatile to a dragonfly in Feb of this year. Major complaint about the DF is that the batton can't be adjusted in the front like the versatile (risers?). The DF tips you horizontally if you just hand where as the versatile will keep you more upright. To remedy this situation I added small loop runners and shackles to lenghten the risers. other than this minor problem I think DF is much better overall, lighter more comfortable.
Now along comes the treeflex and I'm thinking I'll check it out at TCIA in Nov. and probably be buying one if it lives up to the hype. The deciding factor would be the fall arrest capability.

anyone want to buy a slightly used DF or a well used Versatile??? I'm going to need every penny for that treeflex

I have the same problem with my Petzl. Rides up. And does the Glide really do that. I've been thinking of getting one, but ow I don't really know. This is the first time I've heard of it doing that. And right now if i decide to with the thr TreeMotion, with is really nice from what I've seen and been told from my Dad, my Dad would try and fight me over it. I keep saying his is on the way for Christmas, just to miss with him. I say if you can go with the tree motion!!! You wouldn't be disappointed. And let me know how whatever saddle you get feels like, as I'm also in the market for a new one and always love reading reviews, etc. How this helps
