moss

Been here much more than a while
I was laid off from my 15 year high tech job last summer. I decided to take a vacation from slavery to the screen and keyboard and got more serious about doing tree work, better to be a slave to the trees. I also have a decent welding shop up and running and am doing some projects there as well. So... there-in lies the problem. Plenty of tree work happening right now, after working 8 days straight I took a day off and went woods climbing, of course! I have greater respect than ever for pro climbers who actually rec climb, not the first thing you think of when your body is depleted and sore.

I went to a beaver pond I'd found in previous woods explorations and looked for a climb to get a view on an active Great Blue Heron rookery. As I continually find out, SRT/Rope Wrench climbing has so expanded my ability to float high and wide in the crown of a tree, really perfect technique to take advantage of the high crown possibilities in a big woods red oak. Some photos...

Looking over the tree wreckage in a beaver pond. Beavers have always been an important force reshaping and renewing ecosystems. Unfortunately humans have the land so hemmed in with property boundaries beavers are now considered pests. Too bad, these herons wouldn't be nesting without the beaver's work.

Good on ya, moss. Do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life. As always, keep it coming!
