Unicender!!!

My Unicender came today! What an awesome tool. The ease and simplicity of this thing is out of sight! I climbed on it 10 minutes after recieving it. If anyone out there has any tips, tricks, or settup ideas please let me know, I'm always eager to learn and try new things.

HA! I remember that feeling too, ripping the box open and running to the nearest tree!
At the moment I am using this set-up. It's harder on the biceps than traditional frog-walker cause the Uni doesn't grab straight after each lift. Its basically legs and biceps with the Uni as (non-helpful) back-up, but it is fast and great for manipulating limbs as yr not 'stuck' to the rope like when using a croll.

Congrats, Treeswinger. The Uni definitely classifies as a cool tool. It's configurations are probably only limited by your imagination. I'll post two that I use. The first is just a tending pulley that allows easy tailing of the rope on the return from a limb walk. And then falls out of the way when not in use.

The second is a z-rig and I apologise for the clutter in the picture. Hopefully it is still understandable.

Most of the times that I use this I don't even bother with the foot strap. I found it is more versatile without.

This is the z-rig.

I am concerned with the wear I am experiencing on the Uni. I have had this for about 6 months and it is starting to slip on 11 mm Velocity. Bought a fresh coil of Tachyon and it won't hold at all.

I will be switching back to 13 mm to try to create new wear pockets. If that doesn't work, it'll be rebuild time. Much too soon in my opinion.

All right!

Another UniFlyer in the air!

Dave-I know that you've talked about the wear that you experienced with the LockJack and now the Uni. This is a lot different than my experience.

Do you keep your extra rope in a bag on the ground?
Do you wash your ropes occasionally?

Tom regarding the wear on the Lockjack, I attributed that primarily to always running my doubled rope through a pulley when using it. This forced the Lockjack to carry a heavier load in regards to friction control than what most experience.

As far as rope cleanliness, I am a bit of a fanatic. When my ropes get dirty, they don't get washed they get replaced. They get relegated to secondary use, often times to be used with a hitch climber and VT. But anything I run through mechanicals, I keep clean.

I can't explain the wear, other than the fact that these last months I have been using the Unicender exclusively for rope access in the frog walker system and then for SRT working the tree. I often use the advanced friction control, because it is easy for me to work. But I don't come blasting out of the tree.

However, even though I consider myself semi-retired, this Uni does travel a lot of rope miles. But I would expect this unit to be rugged enough to handle much more abuse than what I have thrown at it, because I know the typical tree guy and what they are going to expect of equipment.
