Unicender w/ Barrel Attachment

You make a good point and I agree but....
Something has to keep the economy churning.......so the secret is to buy stuff, use it and enjoy it. Money well spent if you ask me. How many of us really only buy what we NEED? I think that little marking tool has been going for a little longer than 15 years.

I just placed an order to buy a Unicender and looking for feedback.

Just for the record, I have a difficult time buying into the idea that you need an attachment for an attachment. Whether it be Unicender, RW, or anything else. Whatever you get should really be complete as it is without adding an $80 part to the $300 part...

with that said, does anyone have any updated opinions of this Barrel Attachment ?

I can kind of understand your sentiment. but, look at it this way.

If you buy a new vehicle from the factory you get basic tires. If you want a bit more performance you have to upgrade. I think you can understand where this is going.

Why pay for a splice...$20-$40...when free knots work just about as well?

I've used the attachment that YoYoMan makes...and I've used the Uni from the first day it was shown to the industry. YYM's addition puts the Uni on hyper-drive!

FWIW: My crew and I had the chance to use these before Morgan had the patent on the barrel. We were test pilots!

Ever since that attachment, it has been a game changer.

The barrel makes the Uni feel like a corded hitch, (V.T.). There is nothing but a smooth descent that can allow for nice big swings/jumps with a controlled landing.

The barrel is the answer to the Rope Wrench, IMO.

The barrel is ok, but i dont think it is as rope friendly as the drum. The drum allows for big swings also as long as you know how to use it. The barrel also takes up the top hole of the uni and that doesnt work for me. I believe the drum is superior, thanks yoyoman!

I truly appreciate the positive comments. I did make a page of Drum vs. Barrel and I want to clarify that it is not a competition but another choice or option for an individuals needs.
The Uni is an amazing tool and that is the basis of both options.
The Barrel takes it in the direction of when the RW was used creating a smooth tool in the control mode.
The Drum simply enhances the functions the Uni already has, reduces wear and is out of the way when not used.

Again, IMO, BOTH great options for a great tool.

Never mine. I Googled it and found the video.

I'm not being rude, but why would anyone want to use the Uni by wrapping the tail of the rope over the top to us it? That method is now obsolete for the Uni.

The new barrel attachment allows for merely squeezing and descending. It can't get any more simple.

I would miss that top connection but I think the stainless steel Uni with the barrel would be sweet.

Jamin how do you deal with the top hole being gone? Does the barrel rope wrench slow down the self tailing and ascent abilities of the uni?

I'd like to try a barrel too but I'd miss the top hole. The uni is my go to for getting new people in the tree drt.

The Unicender is the slickest way to move around single rope that I've found so far. I wish I'd had time to try the version you lent me with the different kind of barrel attachment on it Tom, before I sent it on to Chris.

However, I'm still a rope hitch kind of gal at heart. Still rocking the ZK1 and stealing the Fiori prototype when I can find out where Chip has hidden it.
