unicender first testrun

thanks for posting wouter.

The unicender looks like something I would have great difficulty with.....mentally. I'm not comfortable with SRT used for work postioning.

I dont accept that this is a step forward in treework, if anything it is regressive. Mainly due to issues relating to the trunk-belay anchor point or anykind of trunk tie-off.

However, having said that....I wish all unicender users good luck in their treework.

Grover, This was my 4th tree on the Uni and i felt quite comfy with it. I share the same issue about trunk belay anchor points during SRT as work positioning.

If you look at the vid you'll see a black access line wich is tied off with an alpine butterfly and the work line is the orange yale blaze tied off at the top with a prussik cord and a biner. Some people like tieing off at the trunk better for various reaseons. For me I like to climb the same anchorpoints as I used to do DRT and don't want to double the forces.

This setup is great for climbing on rigging work as well.

That is a great video!! That makes me want a uni. What was your setup for ascending? Did you have anything tending the uni, or was it just riding up as you went. I am assuming you had a foot ascender as well? What was you overall impression of the uni? How did it feel with blaze? Thanks again for the video!

A piece off small diameter bungee cord around my shoudels that you can easily clip in and out whenever you go up or want to go down.

Pantin on the right foot and a ascender with a footstrap to ascent the tree initially. Line tied off with a alpine butterfly.

Overall impression is good, works really nice and it is efficient while there's no need to change lines and climbing gear once you reach the top off the tree. Clip off the ascender and the pantin and off you go ;-)

Blaze works great on the uni, aswell as the patron acces line, the edelride acces line and the tachyon.
