I used to be pretty intolerent in my teens but as the years go by I have realized that stupid people are just born that way. My tolerance level has been seasoned the last 5 years with the birth of 3 daughters in as much time.

Way to take that leap!

I think one of the greatest things that happened to me was having kids. Being a family man sharpens your character. It gives you a different out look in life too.

But, I think dealing with kids has to deal with patience.

There are a lot of things my boys do, which I don't tolerate and try to "nip in the bud" before it grows into bad behavior/character. I'm trying to civilize these little barbarians.

But maybe as a truly spiritual ideal, unconditional tolerance, always turn the other cheek, is probably the ultimate sign of committment to a higher spiritual ideal.

If you don't believe in a higher authority, there surely can't be unconditional tolerance? Survival, like Svein says, will surely step in.

Hah! My wife just caught me on TreeBuzz! She says some of the goings on here will test any theory of tolerance!

you think thats bad... you should see what they would have done here. i cant count the time i have seen cables just routed through canopys, wrapped round the stem a few turns for "security".
i went to clean up a rotten ash a few years ago that had fallen taking out the power to a building, we asumed it had just fallen through the wires. oh no, the power company had attached the cables to an already dead tree instead of driving in a new pole! then told the householder it was their onus to clean it up! priceless...
 
Let us remember, some things should not be tolerated.Tolerance, like anything taken too far, becomes a bad thing. Abuse,unethical behavior,topping trees

Unconditional is not something that humans are very capable of, whether its tolerance, love, or anything else. There is always that line that ends it, for some its a long line and for others not so long, the point is that in most instances it will end. Somebody said that there was only one perfect man and I think he ended up on a tree.
 
I imagine that in 1776 the guys that penned the following paragraph had a very similar discussion about tolerance. If you haven't read it lately it is worth revisiting and sharing with your children. These are words that many men and women have given their life defending.

"We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed, by their CREATOR, with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these Rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just Powers from the Consent of the Governed, that whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these Ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its Foundation on such Principles, and organizing its Powers in such Form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness."
 
From the perspective of this current adminstration, those cherished and revered words - much like the statutes and laws established within the Geneva Accords (penned after the Nuremburg trials for Nazi leadership), are considered "ancient documents and irrelevent principles" that can be "selectively administered" to benefit a nation in peril...ar least according the Cheney and Wilfowitz.

Come on man, this is Exxon/Mobil and Halliburton reality, we got SUV's to gas-up, strip malls to build, tollroads to drive on and managed health care to prescribe Chinese-made anti-biotic and chemotherapy drugs to take. Got to drill offshore for more oil, search more middle-school kids for weapons and radical booklets (like a copy of the Constitution), listen to more phonecalls and read everybody's emails so dissent can be nipped in the bud and prosecution without due process can take place.

There's a lot of work to be done and Bush is "working real hard" to fix things and win the war of terror. That old Consitution and Bill of Rights is only in the way to our achieving economic prosperity, it needs to be buried alongside our glowing waste at Yucca Mountain where our progeny is stuck dealing with our skud, forever.

Jesus would drive a Suburban, and God never ammended or signed our Declaration of Independence.
