ultra slings

I'm looking at picking up some ultra slings whats everyones opinion on them vs dead eyes ect. i do lots of spar work as well. with pines since im in the south. thanks for any help

Love mine, way better then whoopie/loopie's in my opionion. I've got a ultra sling w/ the largest ring available. I've chunked/rigged down some good size pieces w/ no problem(I know, I should use a block for chunking/shock loads). But the true test was pulling down tree's one day using it as a redirect for pull rope. Rope was hooked to truck, sling to a nearby tree, other end up in tree to be felled. The truck put a hard/heavy load on that ring/ultra sling a few times w/ no problems. It's just so fast to set up/take down no matter how much weight u put on it. I like it for everything on ground and in tree lowering limbs/chunking down spars, rigging redirects.

i'm thinking of getting one to use with a block and maybe getting another with a ring. they seem to be so fast to setup that was my main question was about spar work with them since we move the block so much. i've only been doing this work about a year and a half so i still take small chunks so theres lots of moving for me in a 90ft tree

It’s a simple one, but I’m not seasoned enough to start giving instruction. Some folks on here could give clear, thorough instructions that will help you succeed and avoid pitfalls.

I do a fair number of large White Pines. Ultraslings way worth it especially when they start getting covered in sap. I just wish I could find a longer one...

Ultra Sling splicing from a fellow Canadian arborist (y)

I've been meaning to make one of these. At the 2:05 mark he says that this splice won't work for the single carrier tenex. Any good reason why not? I have a bunch of single end carrier lying around.

Edit:. I think I'm just gonna roll the dice and find out. I made one out of 1/4" tenex in about 30 minutes while watching tv. I had a 15' piece so just went with it. I don't see it working any different than tenex tec. This thing is gonna get the snot pounded out of it.

Edit 2: for anyone who cares, I contacted Samson rope regarding the claim in the video that this won't work with regular tenex. The response from one of their application engineers is as follows: "I can’t find anything within this splicing process that would be any different for regular Tenex compared to the Tenex TEC. The biggest difference is that the two ends per carrier rope is a bit more hollow in the center which can make it a bit easier open up the structure and do your bury splices."

I got the biggest ultra sling single ring tree stuff sells. I've put it to the test both with heavy loads, negative rigging w/ some long runs, redirect w/ truck pulling. It's also very sandy around here, so ropes are often sandy/dirty. No signs of wear yet. I'm gonna get one w/ a block soon.

I'll be using this one with the chipper winch. It'll be choked to a log or branch and the winch will hook to the loop. We work mostly over grass and soil so not super concerned with dragging over pavement.
