Types of cuts.....

Usually straight through, with the odd snap cut when the cutting area needs to be evacuated for safety. Some of you have been mentioning a relief cut. I do the same on some pieces that are in an awkward place and I suspect the piece might pinch do to where the sling/choaker is directed, or if the piece I am cutting off is out of the vision of the operator... i.e- on the back side of the tree. So do you guys make the relief above your primary cut or below? I usually make it above, but does anyone find it matters if you do it either way?

1 or 2 chokers i generally cut straight through but keep a close eye on cut gap to see if its closing or opening and adjust appropiatley.
trust your first instincts if you think cut is closing and pull it out while you can and cut from other side.
if tree diameter is wider than bar length i start from side the tree will lift of too, work my way around pretty 360degrees and finish where i started but on the other side.
wedges can come in handy some times or bits of twigs to put in cut as you work around to keep cut open

if you make your relief above or below the backcut, that's a snap cut, no?

Yes I guess that would be a snap cut to some degree, but not how I would make a proper snap cut say, if I was blocking down wood. We hardly ever use 2 or more choakers. Are we behind the times? or is there some degree of efficeincy we are missing out on?
