Re: Tying a Runnin\' Bolan

I've practiced tying bowlines this way but found that I still needed to dress and set the knot afterwards, making the speed of tying about the same as usual. It also usually produces a less favored variant of the bowline.

Cool method though, thanks for posting it.

Re: Tying a Runnin\' Bolan

Gord, you were my inspiration to post this after watching your fir video and how smooth you tie yer bowline. Thanks for the inspiration brotha!

Re: Tying a Runnin\' Bolan

I tie it where you wrap the rope around your wrist giving you the hole and then you have the tail in your hand and then you follow up and around the rope then down. Hard to explain but will try to post a vid. I can almost tie it one handed but need to cinch it.

Re: Tying a Runnin\' Bolan

I worked with a guy who worked on an oil rig out in Alberta and that was how he tied the runnin bowline......

Re: Tying a Runnin\' Bolan

that's how I roll. The tail end up to the outside of the knot, but in life support application, I tie off the tail, and in rigging, its going to stay loaded, where the tail is almost surely not going to get snagged, inverting the RBl, and releasing.

I hold my the rope in my left hand, palm down, with my thumb pointing toward me. I can only roll my arm the right direction, and reach to pull a bight between my fingers, ready to be threaded with the tail end. Fast and few available motions in which to make a mistake and have to retie.

Re: Tying a Runnin\' Bolan

That's how I've done it for a long time too. It's something of a blur...that you dress and set. Since everyone has their own knot, maybe I'll name one. The blurry bowline lol

Re: Tying a Runnin\' Bolan

I tie it that way too. Have dun it that way fer years. particularly helpful when you do it upside down and behind your back.
