Two Cranes

Yeh, The crane operator was on the cell a couple of times. I had a chat and changed that for future use. I still could have stopped cutting so it is still my fault.

Man those darned cell phones on a job site suck.

I reckon they get left in the truck etc and you check ya calls/messages at breaks.

The piece swung due to the weighting and the way it was tied, bit I suppose predictable as the side opposite to the climber was the heavy side so it would have to tip the way it did making the butt go toward the climber.

Maybe the climber was in the wrong place and needed to be at 90 degrees to the finish cut or hey ....

.... maybe an overlap snap cut and the climber pissed off right outta the way, but heck, what would I know?!

I suppose the other thing you need to watch with those dual crane jobs is things swinging or twisting into you climbing line which goes up past the section you are cutting.

I now give him a hard hat w/ litecom system.

Right on to why it swung.

Now I would use the overlap and get out of way. Didnt know that then. Thats why these forums are good. Ive learned so much more.

90 degrees swouldnt work due to wires/ crane position.

all good comments!

That is one of my biggest complaints with pretty much every crane operator I've used. They all talk on their phone, and it makes them half-assed with their attention. It's just dangerous sometimes. If it's a really crucial pick, I'll just wait until they're done.
Those litecoms are great, aren't they? I just wish I'd bought the Powercoms, now.

Litecoms are good, powercom are probably better. I don't do a crane removal without a radio. At least 70% of the time, operator can't see, and hand signals have to much lag time when timing is critical. Much better to talk to operator as cut is happening.

Nice vid. Mark ! Like the sound track too. Yeah, a little close on that one pick, but you looked comfy enough. No worries. Gotta love big machines!
