I guessed Acer because it appears to be opposite branched, and the color really looks like A. japonicum. It looks familiar, whatever it is...

I am not confirming or denying Acer, I was more interested in seeing how other people think, what they see when they look at a picture, and how they determine species. I am after the Psyche of the process to better help my process of identification.
