"Treeboats"

Re: \"Treeboats\"

The Treeboat rocks. No hammock is more comfy than the Treeboat. Thermarest and a little elevated feet keep you in the comfort zone perfectly. If I where you I would forget about making my own hammock.

Re: \"Treeboats\"

I really appreciate all the info! I'm too far into this little pet project of making my own to turn around now. I have pretty much got the skeleton of the thing finished and just need to cover it with a fabric to make it official. Was thinking Cordura or something strong like it.

Re: \"Treeboats\"

Thanks Tom. Great links. Glad to see that my thoughts about Cordura were at least mentioned in both links. That's why I bring my ideas to you guys...to get reinforcement on the ideas that might work and to get shot down when I am being unreasonable. Thanks again.

Re: \"Treeboats\"

I bought some mesh material before with plans to make a large hammock. The mesh is about as coarse as from a trampoline bed but it doesn't have the same stretch.

Cordura has merit if you need bomb proof durability. Hanging on the side of sharp crystal rock means a different design criteria. one of the long sides of my PL is covered with Ballistic Cloth. This is one of the most durable materials, tougher than Cordura. The bed and pole sleeves are made from plain nylon. There's no need to use heavy, stiff Cordura since PLs in trees won't see the rough use that they will on a Big Wall climb.

I got the idea for using plywood from an outfitter who rents gear to climbers who are heading to Yosemite. He said that climbers have used plywood with success. Hollow core doors from the thrift store work too.

Re: \"Treeboats\"

Treeboat has the pocket for your ThermaRest air mattress. That insulation is key. Remember to put some loops to attach blankets or your sleeping bag. The wind can get cold on your bum!
