Tree Work Too Tough???

This is great thread. I'm 33 and i have to admit i have wondered how long I could stay in the field. I started doing tree work when I was 18. You older folks are an inspiration. Rock on!

Got to love it! Started pulling brush when I was 16yr and started climbing when I was 18yrs on 3strand mamilla rope , Dang ! I'll be 49 this yr .

I just thank the good Lord....

later in SO-CAL

49 this year...
Primary climber, bucket operator...drag brush, run the mini...run the log loader....primary saw tech....sales, marketing, accounting....chief mechanic, welder and paint-man.... trees and business 24-7... What a life! :-)
You mean I get paid to do all this?

Bikram Yoga all winter... gets me ready for the spring.... by fall and early winter I'm a little pooped... but when I look around at the other guys my age at a social event.... It gives me the inspiration to get out there and climb as often as we need....

Stretching, meditation, eating and sleeping right...If you pay attention to ergonomics, and keep your integrity..there's no reason to stop anytime soon!

Tricks, tips and techniques learned HERE....keep me from working needlessly hard aloft... I don't think I'd still be climbing if I didn't have the benefit of all of the Buzz's experience at my fingertips....

Besides my SaveEdge files, the Buzz is my most cherished tool.

Thanks for keeping me in the game folks!

Just turned 52. Climbing full time since I was 19. Still do all my own climbing, and wouldn't have it any other way.

Took 2nd in our chapter comp this May (damn ITCC scoring rules on throwing out highest and lowest scores). Was hoping to score my second championship. As a couple of my friends say about me: "I ain't as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was!"

Shoulders are pretty creaky, and I've got one seriously arthritic ankle from a bad fall 20 years ago, but other than that, I hope to last as long as my dad did as a climber. He is 76 and climbed full time till he was near 60. Last year I had to make him promise to stop pruning his own (60 foot) trees.

58 and still getting into the trees. Not as much as I'd like, but I can still go lick for lick with the young pups. Those extra pounds that I found somewhere sure make a difference though.

The truth for me at age 43, it is easier.

My greatest pains and sufferings were early in my career.
Being tired and sore at 43 is alot easier than the learning curve suffered in the 1st 1o years of practice.

Keep trying to pass the knowledge gained unto others.

Jeff is 49 and still climbing everyday. Loves it, and doesn't think he will ever quit climbing!! He says, "I might climb slower now, but - I climb smarter!"

37 and climbing for the last 13 years, feel rough these days. Slower and feel more unfit than ever especially when doing this kind of thing. Still enjoy working outside though.

Hey Grover - your post made me think. I am 39 and climbing everyday for 15 yrs. I started feeling rough maybe 5 years ago.
I visit a Rolfer (deep tissue massage) every 6 weeks and he keeps me loose. I think of myself as an "Industrial Athelete" and I need to maintain my body. I write a company check for the fee and call it a business expense.
Best things I have done: Quit drinking, work smarter, bid higher, and stay hydrated. I still chain smoke non-filters...
Hope you can find a groove at work. Also hope guys like us will be able to walk when we retire! That is my goal

tell me more about the rohlfing... I had an appointment w a guy once then had to cancel...i never re-scheduled..does it hurt? what exactly does he/she do....i think i have to go!!!

45 and I still feel very very strong. In many ways I feel better than I did when I got started but I also quit drinking in '98 and quit smoking in 2000. Some yoga, lots of rest, I try to wear a really big smile, try to eat right ect. It's a big world and a short life and I'm the luckiest person in this forum when it comes to working with world class people. Right now my workmates and boss are just straight up good for my soul. We laugh long hard and often and can get through the worst of workdays. Good stuff and like Markprz, the buzz has been great for me too.

What is Rolfing® Structural Integration?
Named after its founder, Dr. Ida P. Rolf, Rolfing Structural Integration is a form of bodywork that reorganizes the connective tissues, called fascia, that permeate the entire body.

More than fifty years ago, Dr. Rolf recognized that the body is inherently a system of seamless networks of tissues rather than a collection of separate parts. These connective tissues surround, support and penetrate all of the muscles, bones, nerves and organs. Rolfing Structural Integration works on this web-like complex of connective tissues to release, realign and balance the whole body.

Essentially, the Rolfing process enables the body to regain the natural integrity of its form, thus enhancing postural efficiency and your freedom of movement.

ABOVE: from google search of 'rolfing'. Pretty much sums it up. I think of it as better than chiropractic (bones only?) and more intense than average massage. Good for guys like us that can take a little 'pain' while he/she pushes our sore body back into shape.
Yes, it hurts a little. A good hurt, though.
