Life Flight lands at Bataan elementary school to collect victim
PORT CLINTON -- A 26-year-old man was flown to a Toledo hospital after he fell while cutting trees around 3 p.m. Monday on Alice Street.

The name of the man was not available, Port Clinton Fire Chief Kent Johnson said, but a spokesman for B & L Shortridge Tree Service, 1890 W. Vickery Road, did confirm Monday afternoon that an employee had been injured that day.

A spokeswoman for St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center said on Monday night that Nicholas Shortridge was a patient in the hospital. He was listed in serious condition in the neurological intensive care unit.

The accident happened while workers were removing trees in the yard behind 615 Alice St.

His "rigging just let go," Johnson said. The victim fell about 40 feet.

St. Vincent's Life Flight medical helicopter landed in the backyard of Bataan Memorial Elementary School to pick up the injured worker who had been tended to by North Central EMS.

Firefighters from the Port Clinton Fire Department set up the landing zone in the school yard, while Port Clinton police kept motorists from traveling along the street section during the emergency.
