CARBONDALE, Ill. - Authorities in Carbondale say the cleanup from severe storms that raked southern Illinois earlier this month has killed a professional tree trimmer from Florida.
Jackson County Coroner Thomas Kupferer says 38-year-old Samuel Casey of Lithia, Fla., was working Thursday morning to remove a tree when it fell the wrong way and landed on top of him. He died at a hospital.
It's the second death in southern Illinois related to the May 8 storm and its aftermath. Eighty-seven-year old George Arbeiter was killed during the storm when a tree limb crashed through his Murphysboro home and onto his head, knocking him down a flight of stairs.
