tree killed twice..

So anyway, for the past three weekends I have had the chance to watch the son of our neighbor "remove" some of the ash trees at his dads house (which is currently vacant and for sale)

For starters he and a buddy notched the tree and attempted to drop it only to have it hang in a nearby young walnut tree.

Then over the past few two weekends this guy has been splitting the remaining wood with remarkably non productive results.

Today I have watched him wrestle a section with a significant size branch portion and make vain attempts to split it. The splitting maul he is using is just bouncing off the thing, so he alternates between a steel splitting wedge and clobbering stuff with the very dull splitting maul. No safety glasses or nothing.

I feel like I should go help the dude......

Poor tree, it is getting killed twice, once by the ash borer, and again by this guy...

Sad when you see these things happen and you know there's a better way.

I thought this was going to read like a twice-baked potato thread, but I think Crazy Jimmy has it. The tree won't be killed again - the geek with the splitting maul is doomed. That tree is pissed and came back in a zombie revenge scenario. I fear the guy you were watching is already dead. We must speak of him no more.
