Isn't there a trunk or branch cavity/diameter/sound wood ratio to determine if a trunk or branch should be removed? If so I'm trying to find a source for this information. Thanks.

Read the December issue of Arborist News. Jerry Bond thoroughly debunked the use of shell thickness as a criterion for tree safety. Strength loss formulas are one very small part of tree risk assessment.
