Tree Buzz earns an \"A\" Rating from MDV

Just got around to making an advice page today which includes 8 or the more significant tree forums, or tree forum categories, where people can get tree help and exchange information.

Based on competency, friendliness and good content for ages.

Tree Buzz gets an A

Also at the top, are Arb Talk in the UK, and the Forestry Forum, which is leans quite a bit toward silviculture, timber management.

Na. You're doing awesome Jesse.

Even Ed has some good advice and experience to share sometimes. He even has a dose of arrogance to add.

Did I say that?

I would agree. AS has a lot more info and participation, but the static can be deafening. TH is a good group, but less arboriculture there.

How to get TB an A+? Link easy directions for us dimwits on attaching multiple pictures, for starters. And you and Tom and the rest keep demonstrating a class act, for sure!

That's a timely comment. "Funny thing" as folks sometimes say, but late last night, I was tweaking a few comments and grades, and Tree Buzz did get bumped up to an A+

Agreed is would be nice someday if image posting was upgraded a bit. At least its not insurmountable though, at present.

Ya, that is not the easiest thing to do!

Re: Tree Buzz earns an \"A\" Rating from MDV

Someone at Arb Talk asked about UKTC, which was slated to add anyway. And its added.

Here's where the page sits at the moment ...

Arborist Forum and Tree Forums Ratings ~ MDV

When I went to snatch the link, I noticed that the last question had remained unswered for about 4 days. And that's been the nature of the UKTC Ask an Arborist forum for about 5 or 6 years.

Its like the internet version of an abandoned house, where an occassional transient arborist drops in occassionally.

About 7 years ago, I remember seeing two or three arborists routinely checking in daily. But not anymore.

The site Tree Help or treehelp.com used to have a reasonably enjoyable forum until a couple of years ago, when they shut that feature down.

Re: Tree Buzz earns an \"A\" Rating from MDV

I agree that Treebuzz deserves an A+

...... for it's climbing and gear information!

There are very few postings about tree care, insects or disease.

[/ QUOTE ] Yes, Bugs and Crud is very underused.

Mario, imo you are waaay generous to AS and maybe even TW for civility, and maybe a bit hard on TH for lack of same. let's face it, posters need a thick skin everywhere!

UKTC has more than one--uktc-request@lists.tree-care.info is very busy with UK urban foresters, and has some good biology stuff along with their legal/political concerns, which dominate but may be interesting as a harbinger of things to come as the US gets more regulated. Extremely civil there, as you would expect from Brits (or else the jabs are in their dialect and go over my head!)

2 cents' worth.

UKTC was rated as a forum for posting.

I know the info is good.

But the 4 day wait was the main thing.

Did you think that for >>> ALL AGES <<< that the TH is worth giving a "B" in light of the content other than trees? ie: all the other photos and stuff?

Re: Tree Buzz earns an \"A\" Rating from MDV

I think you'll see some of the same stuff on the Disney channel, actually.

People will go where they feel they fit. Some places are more technical/gear related, some are even homeowner friendly, and some are a mix of everything. Pick you poison.

Did you read what I was talking about in regards to forums? I mean this page ...

UKTC Ask an Arborist Page

The day I typed the review, the question at the top of that list was unanswered for 4 days. Now that I read it again, there are posts unanswered for almost 4 weeks. Today is 4-24-2010, and there are posted questions without response, clear back to the 3 part question of 3-3-2010.

It was your last reply that prompted me to go back. And then I realized it was more inactive than I thought.

Its been that way for years. But I think its getting worse.

Re: Tree Buzz earns an \"A\" Rating from MDV

Okay, we are still talking aobut 2 pages. It's the same as here and the other fora, really--the general forum gets a lot more traffic. If you post on bugsandcrud here it may sit for days, but the same question would get jumped on a lot sooner here.

re Ask the Arborist, I field those for another org that is full of alleged geniuses who are quick to opine in private to peers, but very very few step up to this interface with the public. sad, and inscrutable to me.
