Tips for Getting Eye Splice Through Friction Saver

It was a setup problem. I have tried a lot of times.. I ended up giving up on it and feeding the non-spliced end through and just pulling the rope through.

Good idea William, like I said, I just end up pulling the whole line through to get to the splice.

Setting a second system using the other end of climbing line can present this problem, when the spliced eye is use on the first set up.

There is an alternate method of setting the friction saver shown in THE TREE CLIMBERS COMPANION by Jeff Jepson.
The climbing line is passed thru the small ring on the ground before raising the system.

I climb on Samson Velocity, which is smaller but stiffer than Vortex, but I've never had an issue getting it thru my ring and ring FS from the ground. Sometimes it takes 2 or 3 bumps on the throw line (clove hitched to the end of the tight eye splice) but never anything more than that.
