Time for a New Brain Bucket, but Which One?

Good morning all!

Been using Pacific helmets now for at least the past 8 years and it is time to replace my current one. Not so sure I want to get another Pac. Looking to get your opinions on your current helmets, whether you'd buy another one like it or go with something else, and, of course, why you would do that.

Would love to get your objective input!

Hey Rick, been a while bud, how you been?

I love my Protos. It is easy to adjust, the ear pro is recessed, all of the padding and chinstrap are easily removable/replaceable, i have integrated eye pro that just clip in easily, plus I look like I am in the movie Tron at all times.

I owned a proto for about a day and a half. It was a great helmet no complaints. I wear a size 7 3/4 hat though and it was at the end of adjustment. If i had to wear anything under to keep warm i would have been screwed. I have a kask now with muffs and love it. If you have a big noggin i vote kask otherwise the protos is a no brain in my opinion

Hey Rick, good to hear from you. I have a PAC at work that is OK, but not used in the same way as you would use. I think if I was climbing, chipping etc, I would not like it. I have a kask for climbing and real work and love it. I wear a halo be any under it to keep the stank at bay.

I vote for kask, I keep it light and simple up top. If you like all the bells and whistles that protos is sweet, I just felt like a bobble head with all that weight up there. I imagine you probably get used to it though.

Love my PAC on the ground. Looks good, looks professional, and it just works "right." Climbing, not so much as no matter how well adjusted it just moves around too much and tends to get in the way. Doing a lot of "looking up" from the ground is also a problem due to the balance and weight.

MAC, whats the story on the protos when it comes to maintenance/replacement of the ears?

As for the Kask, I hear about the STANK all the time...what's the deal on that?

I agree on the PAC, very professional looking. As I said, I wear it on my city job. I never enter anyone's work zone without it, just my rule. Most of the other inspectors don't give a crap. Never climbed in it so can't speak to that but have run bucket with it and can only imagine what climbing would be like. Since I wear the halo with my kask, it keeps scalp oil from the padding and I haven't had the sink issue really. I bought a used kask for my son that did and a good soaking in a bucket worked well. Regular maintenance just like any other tool.

I used to climb in the PAC and when I changed over to the protos the first thing I noticed was the lighter weight , later I determined that the frequency in which I had migraines had dropped off after wearing the protos which I put down to the reduction of the helmet weight on my spine/neck from the climbing helmet.
other bonuses include never getting your earmuffs snagged or pulled off by line or branches ever again.:)

We just got the protos and bluetooth setup for our crew and so far no complaints. Get them dialed in and they are set. Also got a new vertex and only complaint is the adjustment seems to always loosed up while working. Protos little heavier and bulkier in ways but haven't noticed it. Haven't ever worn PAC gear.....
