How do you normally tame your new throwline? I stretch mine out for an hour or so...

If it comes on a spool I put it on some sort of axle and pay it out. Simple as a screwdriver or stick in the ground. As long as it comes off the spool with the tube turning. Never let it uncoil off the end. That's how hockles are started.

Halve the line and run it around a tree trunk or over a low limb...about 10-12" diameter. Pull both ends tight.

Put a heavy throwbag on or even two. Pull one end to you but leave it around trunk/branch. Flake it into a cube or big box or tarp...whatever.

Do this end for end a few times.

If it seem like hockle are forming you might need to try another thing. Weave the TL through some pickets or stakes or trunks. Think of weaving a string through your fingers...over and under. Pull and flake the line back and forth a few times. Every time the TL goes around a turn it will roll and milk off the twists.

Sometimes hanging the TL from a high branch and hanging a heavy weight/bag works too. If there are twists the throwbag will spin until it 'unwinds' most of the twists.

For the first few uses try using opposite ends and flake it into a container. Little by little you'll scare out all of the twists.

Tom, I also will hang some types to remove twists, especially zing-it.

Richard, that's funny right there!! It's right up there with using an old worn out line that needs to be thrown a away, but for some reason I keep using it.

I too have found verbal insults do not work! But its not just the new lines that do that, old ones can give you lots of joy as well.
Unspooling (like Tom said) and running over a limb or trunk has been what I have tried. If I notice hockles forming throughout its life I will repeat the limb method to clear them.
