Throttle cable setting on Carlton 4012

I replaced the throttle cable on my kubota diesel and the new one, which I bought from the dealer, opens up the throttle a little bit more. I’m not sure where the engine is supposed to run fully open, and additionally I don’t know how to check what the engine is running at since there’s no tach. I need to know I’m not over-revving the engine.

Any ideas folks?

The fuel pump should have screws/bolts that limit the travel of the throttle arm, regardless of the cable's pull. See if they're still in place (normally they have silastic tamper evident type paste on them), you should be fine.

Maybe it sounds different cuz your other one was stretching till it broke...normally (like carl said) there are stops that are also safetied one way or another to keep it from over revving.

I never took notice of where the lever on the injector pump went to before but now it goes flush against the set screw. I’m asking because today was the first day it went out and it shut off unexpectedly. Maybe it was the Murphy switch but I never tinkered with the set screw on the pump.

It should go from screw to screw (idle to high)... if you haven't messed with those, you should be good to go.

Overspeeding a engine a couple hundred RPM isn't likely going to cause an issue, much less causing it to shut down.
