this looks safe..

Yikes!!

Nice way to skillfully prune a tree, as described in the caption.

Its amazing how people will work super-dangerously, and pride themselves on it, using it in advertising.

Maybe he's marketing to lonely housewives.

I notice that they've disabled commentary on that video. Must not want anyone calling them out. Gotta love the "bare chested he man" technique. Kids, don't try this at home.

At least he has some kind of eye protection on

come on pull.... pull, oh thats right all the weight is going the other way....... does anyone know how to make a 3:1???? no... well just bounce the rope till it goes. God im the best arbo out there!!! Now watch me make fire :)

"Hey bubba, pull harder! Now, we gotta be safe, so don't come runnin' up too soon. Too bad you could get your panel truck under it so I could drop it in the back."

"I never had to use so much technical riggin'at one time!"

"I wish my back cut would hurry up and get thru the hinge so this thing would fall...it's cuttin'down on my tanning time."

"Do I look more like a young Billy Gibbons, or the Una-Bomber on vacation?"

Did I hear the end right? Is his groundie's name really "Crash?"

and i want a groundie whose name is crash!

Ok guys, lets look at the positives though! He had great communication with his ground guy, i know i don't always have as much communication as that. It did go where he was planning. (Don't you think putting a hinge in it would be "calling" where he wanted it to go?) He was in a good position in case something did go wrong. There was no way if that went wrong that it was going to hit him.

The two big things he did wrong was not wear proper PPE and have a dull chainsaw. What else was so wrong? Seriously this wasn't so bad compared to most companies out there. Do we always have to see what others are doing wrong? That will never help us change the industry, no one wants to listen to someone always telling them they aren't good enough or not doing it right.

Why do you think so few people on this site post video's or pictures of themselves? No matter how close we get to perfect someone on here will tell us were doing it wrong! How many people can say they follow all the rules all the time?

There thats my rant on this topic. Have fun ripping it apart.

Derrick. You've got great points worth noting.

I think the thing is this (at least for me): If someone claims to be a professional and his/her actions, while performing their job, are no where close to simple safe working standards, it is difficult for human nature not to want to point out those inconsistencies...

FTR. He didn't have his life line attached to the tree, if he had one at all. To me, that is unacceptable and if he continues to work in that manner he will get hurt. Point out life threatening errors aren't so bad IMO.

I agree with you. One thing that i've been getting frustrated about with those on this site is how negative we've become without seeing any positives. The main reason being, if this guy finds out about treebuzz or is told to check it out, and he see's people being completely negative he's going to run for the hills and we can't help him improve at all then.

Once on a job another tree company pulled up and chatted with us, he said he wanted to start learning to do things safer and asked where he could learn. One place i directed him was this site, but if i'm him and i do work like the guy in that video, i'm never going to ask a question for fear of the response. We have an opportunity to help others through this site but they have to stick around to hear. As much as i'm about bettering myself, how much more rewarding is it if i can better others?

I'm straying off topic a little. When i watch these video's of people doing things carelessly or not up to our standards, i try to take something away from them. What not to do and somethings that i could do better. I could def start communicating more, that will leave no doubt that everyone is on the same page. His positioning was good, worth noting and remember. Then, like you said, see what we can improve on what he did. Remember how important it is to have a sharp saw. It reminds me how much i love my PPE. See how i would have done things differently (set my climbing line in a way that if need be i can have a quick descent).

You can learn from everyone, there is always something positive we can take away. Even if everything was done wrong, now i learned how not to do it.

Hey Crash put my beer back in the cooler and pull on this rope!! That could have been ugly. But love the ricoquet teqnique. If he would have set the pull line lower and finished cutting thru the hinge, or dropped it into the crotch on the other lead, he could have flipped the butt around...Crash looks relieved...
