Things Nick sews

Again, I apologize. I have to remember to add something in the photo for scale. The item is much smaller than a beer cozy.

This picture MIGHT explain it better...

I guess I should do a beer cozy...yellow-orange so it looks like cheese!

MB- those don't keep seeds out of the boots when you're walking through weeds that come up to your waist. I have proper hiking boots that I often wear. They come up about as high as yours do and it's the same problem.

Between the height of the boots and the inseam of my pants, it's never a problem. After all, all you're doing is replicating what's going on in my first sentence.

Aw, I didn't realize you were gonna be wearing shorts.

THAT might look a tad ghey, now!

It's a bonnet to match your ghey-tors!!!!

"That's part of the prob...pants. When I wear pants, it's no issue. But it's too hot here to wear them."

Now that's a picture...naked, in the weeds with plaid gaiters and bonnet

Just kidding, don't take it seriously!

So - can you sew some thing special for me, to go with my red velvet cape?

pattern and material in the mail????

size 12 please

BUT really this is great as there are times that you really need something that can not be purchased off the rack.

great ideas.

thanks Nick

I am think'n NOT a throw bag but an extra bag when you need to send up a second throw line. I watched someone, after i get a line in the tree BUT NOT on a good branch, use a second line and a bag on that line and he was able to correct my throw and set a second line.

OR one to add to a line for a little extra weight

BUT then u'all might know that trick.

still learning here

I find shorts to be much hotter than pants. Anytime you have sun beating directly on bare skin, sun block or not, your losing water and energy. I think of clothes as a mulch sort of. What an awful feeling faving dust and sticks all up in your boot. On top of that you get scratches on top of sunburn. Light colored, light pants and long sleeves for me. and a hat and an umbrella if practical. I have actually been going to work in dress shirt and slacks for the summer. I like having a collar. Long sleeves is key, light material, can un-button to ventilate a little. They wash well and are cheap. But always pants. my genes meant me to be in a place with very little sun hitting my skin. I definil\tly have been stressin my melanin.

But even with pants, those are some kick-a$$ gators and will save you lots of discomfort. Nice workmanship.

Nick,

Assuming it’s a throw bag you’re making, consider using stainless steel shot as the ballast instead of lead shot.—No lead shot, no lead dust to worry about.—In all the older lead shot throw bags I’ve owned, the abrasion of repeated use has turned some of the shot into a powder. Throws that miss the crotch and hit the trunk send up a puff of dust. Shots in the rain that end up in a puddle leave a milky white soup behind. This can’t be good for the environment , the climber, the crew, or the kids of an old throw bag owner.—Little kids seem to explore the world by mouth.—Stainless steel shot doesn’t cost that much, (about $4 per pound), if you get it from an abrasives supplier. The stainless steel shot they sell as a polishing medium, is extremely corrosion resistant. So, you won’t have to worry about it turning into a lump of rust.

Happy Trails,

Paul

It would be harder on any object it hit. And, it would probably be harder on the fabric and stitching of the throw bag. It would also ricochet farther off tree parts on missed throws and be more likely to go to places you don’t want it to go, e.g., aluminum siding, a flower pot, a window, or just a tangle of branches.

May the fling be with you,

Paul
