The things homeowners do...

Been here much more than a while
I often think the world might be a safer place if the sales of chainsaws was restricted to people who could pass a simple proficiency test that included the routine maintenance/adjustments that a monkey could learn in five minutes.

For example, how do you manage to do this to the chain tensioner within a month of buying a quite decent chainsaw?

There were other broken parts, as well. Part of his attempt to replace the chain, which he destroyed using it to cut shrubs down and cut the root ball out of the ground... yeah... and there was wire mesh buried a couple inches down, too. Apparently some failed attempt to keep rabbits out of the garden. He replaced the chain, and asked me to look at it, as he thought it looked a little loose. It was on backwards, and hanging an inch below the bar. Never been cleaned, either. The thought of him actually using the saw scares the shit out of me.

The chain wasn't backwards in his mind. He was cutting with the top of the bar so it made perfect sense to him. Or maybe he knew it was on backwards and just hadn't gotten to the cement steps to sharpen it back up. Most likely though is just the fact that some people just shouldn't operate machinery.:muyenojado:
