I see where you are coming from with not using a hand ascender. There is a trick to the foot loop (saying you do use a hand ascender). After the connection to the hand ascender with the foot loop, tie a butterfly knot midway (with the foot loop cord) connecting that to your hitch climber pulley. Then the end will be your foot loop. Now as you walk the hitch is always minded during both steps.
