Over the last couple of months I have been really pounding out this splice. And just tonight/early early morning I did my first tight eye splice and it came out beautifully! I did a larger eye earlier that is girthed hitched to a rope snap on my lanyard. The tight eye wasn't all that more tough.

Once I get the chance I am going to post some pictures of the first one I completed...It's horrible and I never did climb on it just completed it. Then the large eye then the tight eye.

Splicing is a lot of fun once you know what you are doing.

Well I will get some pics later...

I have been trying for years to have a hands on splicing session at the WAA winter conference. I thought it might actually happen this last conference, but it obviously didnt. You can help that happen by contacting anyone on the program committee and suggesting it for next year. I am pretty sure NickfromWI would be down to come and teach it. The more people we have out there asking for it, the more likely they will listen to us.

BTW, it was nice to meet you in person. If you get some free time this winter and will be in our neighborhood, give me a call and we can get together... we need to splice up several things sooner or later and it would be nice to get some additional help.

Well done on nailing it!
Have you had some break tested?

My first go at poison ivy I don't think the crossover stayed together well. The throat of the splice is so tight I couldn't get a stitch through to whiplock it.

Yea when it comes to stitching it can be difficult. I have a thing that goes on my wrist to help push the needle through...for some reason it is not coming to mind what it is called. Then to pull it out I have to use some pliers.

Yea that would be a lot of fun. Idk if you knew but I have heard of some guys kicking it in the hotel rooms and having "splicing parties." I know aaron schauer is part of that little group. I have to get in on that. I think this would be a better way to go at it. Keep it like a mob thing...invites only...ha.

It was nice to meet you as well. Wish I could have chatted a little longer but I left Monday afternoon to get back for classes

. Yea I will have to let you know about getting together and doing some splicing. I enjoy doing it. Want to get into tenex a little and know its super easy just don't know the distances for the tapers and so forth. But have 16 strand and double braid down is a great start.

Here is one of the pictures...the one on top is the one I never climbed on it just my first attempt that I "finished." The bottom is the large eye that I completed and it turned out great. No problems what so ever. I have to whip up the tight eye yet so I will post that pic later.

The past 2 years were dead on Tuesday because of the snow. If you are serious about getting something going, please contact anyone on the program committee. I already have said my piece and now it would be nice to have some support.

Nick Crawford is the program chair.
Brian Pelot was the guy I went to when I wanted a business track. I have also talked to him several times about doing something related to splicing. The more people we have asking for it, the more likely we are to get it.

What's the bump in the top one? That's the crossover, right? Have you tried stitching the crossover?

The bottom one looks sexy!

That was my bad one...that bump might be the cross over idk. I stitch the crossovers now yes. Also the mistake I made on the top one is I didn't put a fid in the eye to put pressure on it so it fed in all at once equally. I also did that top one with tube fids only. Now I use a homemade coat hanger one.

When you going to post part two of that double braid splice?

Casey, I have used the push fids, a wire fid (piano wire) that I got from Octavious Benton and the Toss Wand. Without a doubt, for my double braid splices, the Wand is the best. Everyone has their preferences though, I know.

Also I was wondering where part one is of Nick's double braid splice?
