The best (retrievable) redirect

Looks real nice, Lemon.

Could you attach your tail to the retrieval side (connect it to the prusik ring...)? It may not be as sexy, but I'm guessing when it's time to retrieve, you could do so a bit more reliably.

Thanks!
Good point i forgot to mention ocean! I have done it that way and works reliably, only drawbacks are moving through canopy with three lines and I find the dangling loop of the tail getting hung up a lot and depending on size of the tree, distance of TIP and redirect, it can limit how far you can travel, though I haven't had that occur yet.

Hello,
Further to Lemonjello and Oceans ideas, rather than attaching your tail to the retrieval side, you could add a Revolver in there and put a bight of your running end into it, keeping your tail safe at hand.
You still have the extra lines, now four, and a heap of rope in the system, but this allows you to haul your termination back after releasing the redirect, clip back in and continue climbing with the main anchor intact.
The other possible bonus might be in the event of a bad snag on retrieval, you still have the tail of your rope free and if there's enough left you can re-anchor with it.
Best regards,
Syd

Syd,
That's a lot of revolvers! And so shiny too!

Have you function tested that setup yet? I found that retrieving it works best if you get close to being below the main TIP. It drops right back to you. Really quickly too! I found out the knuckle smacking, cursing way. I let line droop a bit and that helps land it back to you without being directly in its path.

Hello Lemonjello,
I have function tested the set up, yes. It worked so well around the furniture, I went straight to branch walking from one tree to another. Stropped to the second stem, I put a guestimate of slack into the system and retrieved the redirect and my splice. There was a snag, but the haul works well enough to break a branch. You don't want to lose your tail though.
They were 25m planes, so the distances were a good enough test for me. The result was being top anchored in one tree, stropped to the next, and free to progress with the other end of my line. Maybe not for everyday production climbing, but if you had a special TIP and a lot to get around, it might help. Or just a bit of fun on a social climb.
I salute your knuckles' sacrifice in the name of progress. I hadn't considered using gravity for the return, but I'll be setting your system up for sure, thank you.
The Shiny...the Shiny...
Depending on the friction, it works with a sling, three regular biners and any little shackle in your bag. Much more economical.
There's a deluxe adjustable version involving a MultiSAVER and a Wichard snap. Just squeeze the Revolvers onto the rings and splice a short tether for the snap.
Best regards,
Syd
