Keep in mind Jeff that Kerville is the weekend after and 3.5 hours away, so maybe you wont have as much fun as you did last year.

I've heard there is a decent state park near the competition where you can camp. I'll be doing that unless it's rainy, much prefer it to motels. If there are any interested buzzers it would be fun to hang out around a fire and catch up. Let me know if anyone is interested so I can look into booking some spots.

Thanks for the suggestions Tom. Do you know which one is nicer/quieter?
Paul, my family isn't coming because my wife will have to work. I don't know if I would camp if they were coming because usually techs and judges meet at 7 at the park and I can't see myself getting all packed up and having the wife and kid ready by six am, they would probably kill me if I tried.
I was thinking of camping superlight. Matt and sleeping bag in the chip box for quick packing in the morning.

Last time we were up there, I camped at East Fork Park on Lake Lavon (http://www.swf-wc.usace.army.mil/lavon/Information/east fork_handout.pdf). It's far from being an isolated experience, but when I was there I was the only one in the tent area. There were several central sites that might as well have been one big one, but the outer rim had a few sites that weren't too bad. It also happened to be kinda cold and rainy, which meant I had it pretty much to myself (though it seemed it was about to get a little more crowded for the weekend as I was leaving).

I would say it was a fine place for sleeping while up for the contest, but no way would I choose it as a camping destination. I would also worry that it might be a madhouse if the weather is nicer. No idea about any other places nearby that might be better (asked at the time and nobody replied).

Yeah,
I'm not expecting too much. Any campsite that close to a big city will be crappy, but it will still be way better than motels for a social gathering. Let's see if anyone that lives there will post a better idea.

Well it looks like the camping around plano is not the best but I'll go with the undeveloped part of the park that Keith Babberney mentioned. If anyone else wants to camp there let me know and we can book it soon.
