TBers-- how many own your biz/ work for someone

[ QUOTE ]
Just wondering if you guys work alone, whats happens if you get injured in the tree?

[/ QUOTE ]

It would suck. I love working alone somedays, others I don't even want to go the job without some help and company.

I'm alone on the job about half the time. I can dawdle and take pictures or try to key out some weird species without worrying about wasting someone else's time.

I already know Guy,just asking a rhetorical question I guess and I wasnt at the tree fund, but I wouldnt mind meeting you.Now back to the thread.

I already know

[/ QUOTE ]Well then please share your knowledge cuz I don't know; that's why I asked. What's the Z say about working alone?

Than k You!

I was an mediocre employee...as a matter of fact, I was a good employee with poor employers. Cory and I own Limbwalker. We have about 13-16 employees depending on the time of year, and are doing okay. I try to be a very good employer, and take that role seriously. I want to provide all the things my employers did not: health ins., calm working environment, safe working environment, good co-workers, retirement packages (still trying on that one), good equipment and an excitement for tree work.

a second arborist or other worker trained in emergency procedures shall be within visual or voice communication during arboricultural operations above 12 feet.

Chris I kinda have the same story,I totally try to treat my guys the way I wanted to be treated as an employee.I try to give them all the goodies I never got but would have really appreciated.Funny sometimes I think my older employees who have been hosed by employers are alot more thankful than the young guys who havent.

Chris - I have to say, for the week I was there, you are accomplishing everything you described!

[/ QUOTE ]

Ditto on that. The week I worked with them was the best. I will always be grateful. Working with "The Hammer of the Gods" on a crane job setting freshly spliced spider legs, on a oak leader (half the tree) that had split and fallen almost half-way through a house, was about as kick @ss as you can get. Limbwalkers is, and will always be the best. Thanks guys.

Self-employed 16 years and loving it! I might have to give up my working alone...I'd hate to get arrested.

Well make sure your really not alone but leave times that you will check (make pit stops on a phone) in or a home owner near by is around throught the day.

Re: TBers-- how many own your biz/ work for someon

I work for a company, not a tree company, but a company that employs me as an arborist full-time year round. Full benefits, 401K, all that. Though lately the bennies have been getting thinner, due to the bad economy.

That is why I also own my own tree company. Like someone else on here said, no adverts, all word-of-mouth, but like some of the others, I do work alone most of the time. Usually the HO is there. Definitely having a cellphone on my side as I climb, though that wouldn't do me too much good if I was really hurt.

I do bring others along for the big stuff/rigging/etc.

Sounds like Limbwalker needs to open a Research Triangle Office.
