Tassie Blues

Was part of that trunk decayed or was that just the bark on the base of the trunk? Do they remain pretty solid with decay? I rarely see you taking down nasty rotten trees. Guess the make them tougher over yonder.

you seeing it correctly there Steve , the base had started to rot where the shedding bark was trapping all the moisture so was pretty stoked to get through all the scarf and back cut on one sharp chain.
once the heart rot gets going it will convert the heart wood over fairly rapidly with out any major signs in the canopy.
and yes if rot isn't the leading cause of the demise then the timber does set rather solid - you will be able to see that in the next video which will be a dead tassie blue.
