Tangled up in trees...

Hello,

So I go out in the afternoons after work to climb recreationally for 1 - 1.5 hours. With some regularity, something gets tangled or stuck (throwline, limb saver, etc.). I then spend my time solving my issue...which is just fine, as I'm just playing.

That got me to thinking about you pros. Do you too get stuck...or is that simply rookie experience, and will dissipate over time?

Thank you.

I nearly eliminated problems with stuck throwlines and weights since I pretty much stopped trying to pull them back towards the launch point. Just pull another bag (and throwline if needed) in the same direction as the original toss/shot. I'll put 2 bags together if I have doubts about 1 bag being able to pull both legs of throwline to the ground.

You learn to anticipate and avoid situations that create lost time- that is one of the efficiencies of experience.
I notice that when I am stressed and in a hurry I get things stuck. It’s a kind of negative feedback loop.
Most people give up learning to fly fish because you spend about a year and a half untangling yourself before you actually start to fish. Climbing can be similar.

Ahh yes...being a fisherman (fly, trolling, etc....thus Zebco Kid), I get the comparison. Too many times, the hatch has been going off, fish jumping all around me while I'm untangling a handful of monofilament spaghetti.

My favorite is when the boss throws a coiled rope from the tree, it flies 20ft and then catches itself in a knot, swinging back into the tree, and then wraps itself round a dead limb. We then inevitably hear, “WHO COILED THIS WRONG??!?” Never fails. I’ll tell ya, it wasn’t me…
