Sycamore, Static or Dynamic Cabling?

In the vid, it looks like the left side attachment has some inclusion. Subordinating the leader growing toward the deck may be an option?

Looks like a possible candidate for a triangle system, unless the leader growing toward the deck could be reduced enough to not be a concern? Hard to tell from the vid but I'd probably do a dynamic traingle and growth regulate it since it has a poor attachment and is so close to the house. Or subordinate that leader growing toward the deck and then put in a single system on the 2 remaining.

I've never growth regulated a sycamore so I really cant say? Good question for rainbow or short stop.

I guess it would be worth a shot since a tree that size would be pretty cheap. If doing pruning and cabling as well, I'd probably charge around $50-70 to GR that tree. Guessing its around 14dbh.

Several times I have GR repeat clients trees for free just to see results for myself. Results have been mixed.

Jeff, Any success stories with GR's?

I've seen some reduction but nothing drastic, I just started using it 1-2 years ago and they say it takes a full year to take full effect (i think).

I have definitely noticed darker green leaves. Also been using it for the "health benefits" were root space is limited, mild decline, etc, etc.

I've never personally applied it, but I think our main targets are mature trees that have either begun to decline, or are showing signs of stress, or just plain dont have any reason to be putting alot of energy into new shoots.

We do this big white pine in the middle of a courtyard area, not sure if its due to the GR, but the new growth has looked semi chlorotic for several years, but you can definitely see the stunting of the growth in the shoots. I personally think it really detracts from the usual look of a pine, but thats just me. Any large pieces come off the pine and its taking some pieces of brick mills with it.

I think I've seen the effects of it work to some extent on white and red oaks, as far as being up close to see new shoot growth at the tops of the trees, but otherwise, as I'm not the applicator, unsure of where and what its being used on, and what effectiveness it has.

There are some hemlocks we do, with a bunch of rhododendron max. under it, and I will tell you what, it definitely regulates the growth on the rhodies! lol
