I'm not sure what's gimmicky about the sugoi... it's colorful I guess, has a plastic scabbard that could be strapped to your leg but it's not really any bigger than most leather scabbards for a saw that size. I ditched the straps right off and tried some 2" webbing... I just don't like the saw on my leg when I'm pruning. It does have that hooked handle which you could grind off if it bothered you, but so far it hasn't bothered me... much... maybe I will grind it off come to think of it.
It doesn't fall out of the scabbard IF YOU PUT IT ALL THE WAY BACK IN... which is tricky sometimes... probably my only real complaint. If you just drop it into the scabbard it stays loose and will definitely fall out next time it get tipped backwards. You have to wiggle it just a bit and push it so it fits tight... OK, so the scabbard's a bit gimmicky/finicky. Who cares when the saw cuts like the sugoi does?
I've used Coronas and a Natanoko, they hardly cut at all compared to the sugoi... well, a brand new corona cuts pretty nice but it gets dull fast.
I can't say about the Ibuki. It looks really nice, I like the simpler scabbard, prices are about the same, it can be sharpened, no hook on the end... I use the hook for pulling hangers, ripping through vines, reaching a rope, etc.
It's a toss up. Get'em both and report back after you've tested'em.
