Stump grinder came unhooked 1 killed

Re: Stump grinder came unhooked

That's why I do not like tailgaters!!!!

If I stop, can you?

I'm sorry for the Ryder truck driver's family, that is an unfair situation. That will be tough for the tree service. May instigate an audit from the DOT. Bad day for everyone involved.

Drive safely.

Re: Stump grinder came unhooked

More or less that was bad set up, a sign should of been placed at the top of the hill. Or farther down to forwarn drivers that workers would be there. Seems it was all the tree services fault, they hit their own truck accroding to second paper.

Re: Stump grinder came unhooked

I have not heard anythin new on this. And yes the chip truck hit the stumper which caused it to come loose. The one thing that caught my eye was the last names and the age of the workers. Seems like this crew was lacking exp. but thats just me. Still a tragic time for the other driver and his loved ones.

Re: Stump grinder came unhooked

Thats crazy. terrible someone had to lose their life, because they parked in a bad spot/ didnt have the road marked. Sad. I always think of this when I have to park in the street. A busy hwy like that with all those hills, is just asking for it. Can you imagine how hard they had to hit that grinder for it to come unhooked, fly up, and land clear off in the grass. Thats a big machine.

For this reason alone the following truck needed to give the lead vehicle more room. The chip truck driver didn't account for the conditions, single lane, hilly, busy road, limited shoulder with ditches. No escape path except the room in front of the truck. What condition were the truck's brakes or the chipper brakes for that matter.

Lesson for all of us. Like entering a tree do your hazard assessment then adjust your plan accordingly.

The other guy has paid for this instead.

Re: Stump grinder came unhooked

There seems to be blame on the part of the Parked truck for not carrying out correct MOT / traffic control. Also that dump truck looks to be a CDL truck. Do you not need to be 21 to hold a CDL? The driver was reported as 20 years old.

Re: Stump grinder came unhooked

There will be plenty of blame for this when the dust settles. As for the CDL, it's 18 but you need to be 21 to get passenger and hazardous materials endorsements.
