Stuck throw weight

I received a call Sunday morning about a cedar at a cottage with failed roots falling over onto an electrical service wire so off I went.
The wind was really strong and I sent the throw bag hard into the cedar to penetrate the thick branches only to have the bag over thrown into the top of another tree beyond where the weight got stuck in a V.
By using a spare throw line and another weight I tied a bowline (running bowline) around the stuck line with the free line and sent the spare bag up and above the stuck bag in the same tree.
The bag hit the ground on the far side and I was able to use that line to pull the stuck bag free.
It worked well!

One addition...

Use a midline loop or girth hitch a small screwlink into the orange line. Keep control of the 'left' end of the orange line. This way you can control exactly where in the travel you lift the stuck line. Sometimes pulling back to the left between 9 or 11 o'clock might be what's needed to lift the stuck one.

Good point Tom, I wasn't sure my second line was going to be long enough to do that, I'm sure it wasn't but something to keep in mind for the next time.
Thanks for the tip!

I was lucky here, just had to clear one tree, nothing but beach and Lake Superior beyond.

You can almost always tie ends of throwline together to make a loop.

After I stick one throwline I move my target waaaaay down the tree. I don't ever want to have both throwlines stuck and have to monkey fist into the tree...aw, heck, just grab the spikes and hook my way in!

life just gets sad and depressing, why proceed, things go from good to bad. like breaking a bolt off while working on a car. nice way of getting out of a dark hole.

Good problem solving, Kevin. I've managed a couple similar solutions, not exactly the same, but still got the works back without having to climb. Though a couple of times I wondered if it was worth the time spent, rather than just climb up and get it.

I have done something similar to get a stuck ART out of a tree before. It might take a few minutes to set up but at least I don't have to climb back up there!
